Our journey began in Sri Lanka
Our managing director, Shermith Fernando, was born and raised on the island, and spent his earliest years roaming its tea country, temple towns and coastlines long before he ever made a profession of them. By the time he stepped into the travel industry, he had already crossed Sri Lanka countless times: by rail through the hill country, on foot through tea estates and temple towns, and by jeep into the parks at first light. Along the way he came to know its landscapes, its languages and, most of all, the people who give the island its character.
In 2015, Ceylon Insider Travels was founded around a single conviction: that the most meaningful way to see Sri Lanka is through the eyes of someone who calls it home. From the very first itinerary, every detail was personal. Boutique villas were chosen for their hosts as much as their views, guides were hand-picked from a circle of highly educated professionals who will turn your holiday into a story worth telling, and journeys were built to follow the island’s rhythm rather than a brochure’s. “Sri Lanka deserves to be travelled slowly, in the company of people who love it,” Shermith says. “That is the brand we set out to build.”
